It will also surpass the current under-construction Airoli-Katai road tunnel which is 1.7 km long.<\/span><\/p>\n Initially, the construction of this tunnel was proposed to Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).<\/span><\/p>\n Later, it was handed over to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This is because MMRDA has great experience in undertaking and completing challenging projects like Metro lines, which include tunnel work as well.<\/span><\/p>\n At present, the only way available to travel between Borivali and Thane is through Ghodbunder Road. There is no direct way between Borivali and Thane. And this consumes a lot of time to travel between these locations<\/span><\/p>\n So, this is the reason for planning and initiating the Thane Borivali tunnel project.<\/span><\/p>\n Note:<\/strong> The Total Length of the tunnel is 11.84 km.<\/span><\/p>\n And the length of the underground tunnel is 10.8 km.<\/span><\/p>\n As this is a twin tunnel, each tunnel has 3 lanes. So, in total it has 6 lanes.<\/span><\/p>\n The tunnel begins from Tikujiniwadi in Thane and the tunnel ends on the Western Express Highway in Borivali.<\/span><\/p>\n The Thane Borivali tunnel comes under as a part of the Goregaon Mulund Link Road project.
